The player's retrieving strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had led some to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an better serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

He saved 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
